Hugo Mérida-Barba

Hugo Mérida-Barba, founder and CEO of MvM Capital GmbH, has more than 25 years experience in financial markets.

Hugo began his professional career in 1994 in HypoVereinsbank (currently Unicredito Group) in Frankfurt,  as assistant Sales-Trader in Fixed Income, followed by 18 years in BBVA bank, where he started as Interest Rates Derivatives trader, then moved to Equity Business.

As a member of the Equity team he led significant projects worldwide:

- Head of Equity Risk Arbitrage Trading in Madrid (1999).
- Head of Equity Derivatives Trading business in New York (2001).
- Global Head of Equity Index Volatility Trading team in Madrid (2003).
- Head of Equity Trading Asia in Hong Kong (2010), as his last position in BBVA bank.

Following his resignation from the bank in 2012, he founded MvM Capital GmbH, as he wanted to move from investing into financial assets to investing into Real Economy.

His strength lies in an unparalleled knowledge of the global markets, a solid investment track-record across several geographies and many years of professional practice, as well as a strong access to worldwide deals through his well established network across Asia, Europe and the Americas.

His attraction for the equity investment began at the early age of 16, with the experience of the Black Friday (1987) on his father’s portfolio, and he did his first own investment at the age of 19 (First Gulf War). Since then, he has been an active investor with his own equity (subject to the compliance approval during his time at BBVA), in sectors like Energy, Healthcare, Telecom, Banking, Insurance, BioTech, eMobility, Transportation, Logistic, Pharma and Technology.

He is shareholder and member of the Board of Directors of hAItta (Swiss Artificial Intelligence company) and founder and member of the Executive Board of Power to Motion, a German company aiming to own and operate electroMobility infrastructure in Europe. He is currently member of the Investment Committee of Audentia Capital Management. He was member of the Advisory Board of Round Hill Capital (€3.5Bn) until Dec-17. Previously he was senior advisor of the Italian fund management company Azimut (€+40Bn), Spanish EDM (€2.5Bn), GreenOak and Groove International funds, and Spanish Grupo CIMD (biggest South Europe financial services group).
